Nicola and Helena established the company in 2001 after jointly successfully running the planning division of one of Sydney’s larger architectural firms. Individually Nicola and Helena are known in planning and development circles as professionals with exemplary records in quality and delivery. Together they have built a company known for excellence in the field.
Nicola Gibson established MG Planning with Helena Miller in 2001. She has over 30 years’ experience in both statutory and strategic planning and has worked in local and state government as well as the private sector. Nicola is a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia
Nicola has expertise in all facets of planning, including strategic planning, development assessment, infrastructure coordination, contributions plans and planning agreements, local area planning, regional planning, environmental assessment, transport planning, and release area planning.
Nicola is a highly skilled planner and brings to MG Planning a detailed knowledge of the workings of government and of the land development process. She is also particularly skilled in translating complex and multifaceted land use problems into workable and responsive planning outcomes, and in working with government agencies and other key stakeholders to resolve land use planning matters. Nicola also has considerable experience as a technical writer and has expert skills in the editing and production of technical documents.
Some of Nicola’s recent projects include the Walsh Bay Arts and Cultural Precinct State Significant Development Application, the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park extension, Review of Environmental Factors for the upgrade and widening of Delhi Road, Ryde, Mosman Scenic Foreshore planning review and Stockton Boat Harbour redevelopment.
Helena Miller is a founding Director of MG Planning Pty Ltd and is a highly skilled and experienced planning expert with a strong reputation for excellence in the field. Helena has an extensive knowledge of all facets of planning within the New South Wales system specialising in both strategic and statutory projects. Helena is a Registered Planner and corporate member of the Planning Institute of Australia.
Helena possesses a thorough knowledge of development assessment processes having extensive experience in the preparation and assessment of complex and controversial development applications including State significant projects. Her ability to successfully negotiate improved outcomes on behalf of clients is a significant strength. Helena provides high quality analytical advice and brings a practical approach to all projects. She has the ability to balance and weigh the full range of issues and ultimately to arrive at solutions which are practical and which address competing interests.
In addition to development application work Helena also has considerable experience in release area, “green fields” site planning and urban infill planning. She has prepared numerous comprehensive environmental studies and planning instruments and is skilled at formulating workable planning controls.
Helena is also experienced in the presentation of expert evidence to the Land and Environment Court. Her comprehensive knowledge, thoroughness and attention to detail enable her to readily perform this role.
Recent projects include the Bays Waterfront Promenade, Strathfield Golf Club, Barangaroo Headland Park, Macarthur Heights Campbelltown and Land and Housing Corporation Public Housing Projects.
